Buy Now Pay Later Regulations finalised

The National Consumer Credit Protection Amendment (Low Cost Credit) Regulations 2025 have now been published, and are available for access on the Federal Register of Legislation.

From June 2025, buy now pay later (BNPL) products will be subject to new laws designed to maintain the benefits of buy now pay later contracts while enhancing consumer protections.

Under the new laws, buy now pay later providers will need to hold a credit licence and comply with obligations under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (National Credit Act) from June 2025.
