AFIA Submission to Economics Committee Inquiry into Tax Reform Bill No. 2
17 July 2026, AFIA's submission strongly supports the Bill's provisions making the $20,000 Instant Asset Write-Off permanent for small businesses with turnover under $10 million, noting the certainty this gives to non-bank and specialist lenders structuring small business finance products. The submission also recommends the Committee consider adding a new build exemption to the SMSF residential LRBA ban, arguing this would preserve SMSF capital as a funding source for new housing supply while leaving the ban on established residential property in place. AFIA further raises implementation concerns around the compressed timeframe before the ban's 10 August 2026 commencement, including treatment of in-train transactions, and recommends either a legislative fix within this Bill or interim ATO compliance guidance to give borrowers and lenders certainty.
