AFCA’s consultation on approaches to family violence and financial elder abuse
On 8 April 2025, AFIA provided a submission to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) Joint consultation on approaches to family violence and financial elder abuse.
AFIA members recognise the significance of this issue in Australia and the actual and potential impacts on their customers. Financial firms regularly review and refine their financial hardship programs, including hardship-related processes, and many have financial hardship teams in place to help manage customers experiencing financial difficulties, including customers who are experiencing forms of financial abuse.
AFIA supports further work being undertaken by the finance industry, government and other key industry stakeholders to develop and adopt consistent approaches and support a better understanding of the challenges victims of financial abuse face.
