AFIA Submission to the RBA Review of Payments System Regulation

AFIA’s submission argues that Australia already has a world-leading payments system, delivered by competition, innovation and private-sector investment — and that further regulation should be evidence-based, proportionate and targeted to demonstrated problems. It supports targeted action on open, non-discriminatory access to iPhone NFC functionality and least-cost routing for debit, while urging the RBA to remove barriers to A2A access for non-ADIs and to avoid premature intervention in optional products such as BNPL, three-party schemes and integrated platforms.
