Sustainable fringe benefits tax treatment of electric cars
AFIA supports the Government’s proposed transition to a more targeted and fiscally sustainable electric vehicle Fringe Benefits Tax concession, while preserving existing grandfathering arrangements for current EV users.
The submission recommends targeted amendments to ensure employees do not lose grandfathered treatment due to circumstances outside their control, such as employer restructures, job changes, parental leave, temporary absences or insurance write-offs.
AFIA also calls for greater clarity around the anti-avoidance provisions to provide certainty for employees, employers and salary packaging providers while maintaining the integrity of the reforms.
