Privacy Act Review

AFIA lodged our submission to the Attorney-General’s Department on their consultation regarding the Privacy Act Review.

The review’s final report proposes 116 potential changes to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

AFIA’s detailed response discusses each of the proposals and provides members’ views.

Topics discussed include:

  1. the objects of the Act;

  2. the definition of ‘personal information’ under the Act;

  3. proposed individual rights contained in Chapter 18 of the report;

  4. a statutory right of action for interferences with privacy.
